Back in the day Deus Ex was the only good non-linear FPS for the PC and it really showed. After the horrible sequel Invisible Wars fans have been aching for a good sequel and it has finally arrived in the form of Human Revolution.
Gameplay: The game plays like any FPS but with a few changes here and there. For example it only takes around 3 shots to kill you and you regenate health very slowly the game is very hard and i could not complete it on normal and had to play on easy. The game is also very scarce with ammo and doesn't give you a much inventory space so you have to conserve your ammo and money, while ammo being scarce isn't exactly a flaw i did find myself without any ammo for the more rare weapons which is obviously a bad thing i also got stuck a lot of times because i didn't have anything to fight off the enemies with. The game features an amazing upgrade system where what you spend points in really counts for example i can get the wall breaking augment to skip a room full of enemies or i can charge into the room wasting my ammo and energy but in exchange get access to a computer which controls a bunch of cameras. The augments are the following, combat, stealth and hacking. Combat focuses on fighting and gives you things like extra armor and less recoil. Stealth focuses on not being seen nor heard and gives you augments like silent legs and invisibility. Hacking let's you hack terminals and computers for rewards, shortcuts and access to deadly robots at the cost of you being lousy in combat. Upgrades are scarce and you won't be able to get many points into more than one subject. The best thing about the gameplay is the freedom of choice as each path you take in the game gives it's own kind of reward. However there are bad parts about the gameplay mostly surrounding the bad A.I which can be easily fooled and puts Crysis 2 to shame. The game also suffers from bad lip synchronization.
Gameplay score:8
Graphics: While the graphical engine of Deus Ex Human Revolution doesn't do much to impress considering all character look like rubber, it is not completely awful and isn't full of graphical glitches and bugs. The art direction of Deus Ex is astonishing and really impresses. I was surprised how the game could have a variation of different levels and areas while only using the colors yellow and black. Much of the games art design comes from the renaissance as some characters have 700 year old clothes.
Graphics score:7
Story: The story of the game revolves around the overall theme and Intelligence of the game. It represents the intelligence of the game though the use of terms like 'Human Rights' and 'Illuminati' in order to really make you think about the future. The story is set in 2027 and the technology of the world doesn't differ much from today's counterpart. By making the world slightly familiar to our own the game can make you think how the theories of the world can reflect back onto our own which is a very powerful thing and really made me think. The story of the game itself is very good too with lots of intresting plots, twists and teories.
Story score:9
Sound: The gun sounds of the game, while i have heard better still manage to impress and make you never hold down the fire button for too long as the sounds made me fear the sound of the gun. I also found the scenes where Adam died very amusing as his death sounds involves gurgling 'augh ugh augh' as your 'computer screen' for eyes started glitching. The voice acting however could have been a lot better as some of the voice acting were outright racist, im talking to you Letita!
Sound score:6
Verdict: If you want to get a game that will make you get deeply philosophical by shooting people, this is the game for you.
Total score:7.9
